Advocacy Principles

The VFF:

  • Values democratic principles and processes enabling all members to have an equal voice and vote on all issues;
  • Encourages diversity in its membership, which is open and accessible to all members of farm businesses in Victoria;
  • Values diversity of opinion. New ideas and different perspectives are encouraged and respected. All members are encouraged to frankly express their views and all have equal opportunity to influence policy. Within the forums of the organisation members are encouraged to question and debate existing and new policy proposals. Issues are assessed on the facts available and the merits of the arguments;
  • Encourages members to stand for office within the organisation and competition for elected positions is welcomed. Candidates are judged solely on the basis of their ability to contribute to the objectives of the organisation in the position;
  • Expects members to respect the views of others as well as the democratically determined policy and objectives of the organisation;
  • Supports voluntary membership and values and recognises the contributions members make to the organisation in an honorary capacity;
  • Is an independent non-party political organisation that is uninhibited by external influences.
