Communications Officer, Stock Sense 

Reporting to the Livestock Project Manager (Stock Sense), this is an opportunity to work with a fantastic team and contribute to the delivery of animal health, welfare and biosecurity information to Victorian sheep, cattle and goat producers including peri-urban landholders.  

You will: 

Have meticulous attention to detail. Ability to multitask several projects or campaigns at the one time.  

Be a brilliant writer with proven ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders both written and verbally. 

Work in collaboration with the wider VFF team and with external agencies and freelancers to author and edit written copy, including email newsletters, news articles, social media posts and advertising.  

Collaborate with the immediate project and marketing team to curate content for delivery across digital and traditional communication channels including Facebook, Instagram, website, quarterly e-news, articles, fact sheets. 

Develop ongoing reporting, insights and analysis of communications performance. 

Coordinate in collaboration with the wider business VFF’s ongoing social media advocacy approach in relation to Stock Sense project.  

About you  

As the ideal candidate you will have either a degree or demonstrated experience in marketing, journalism, or media and communications and an interest in livestock health and welfare and agricultural production. Your spelling and grammar will be exceptional. 

 You also bring demonstrated experience in the following: 

Branded social media marketing, including planning, content creation, the management of paid social advertising and reporting. 

Copywriting, short and long format; as well as an editorial mindset, with an eye for a good story and relevant and timely content topics.  

Well-developed process and organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously.  

Demonstrated creative, research and analytical skills including the ability to offer insight and ideas to marketing strategies and programs. 

Professional and respectful stakeholder management skills, ability to work collaboratively with external agencies and internal teams. 

High level of communications skills, attention to detail, and ability to write quality advertising and media briefs and evaluation reports. 

Key Accountabilities 

Curate content for delivery across digital and traditional communication channels including Facebook, Instagram, website, quarterly e-news, articles, fact sheets 

Liaise with and maintain networks in the livestock industry including with Government departments, industry organisations, researchers and technical experts, the supply chain, and livestock producers to support the delivery of industry funded projects 

Deliver project messaging across VFF’s social and digital media suite, which will include liaising with internal and external teams for creative production, paid messaging distribution and audience growth projects. 

Help grow the online presence and delivery of animal health, welfare and biosecurity information. 

Attend industry forums and field days where appropriate and industry meetings as directed. Presentation skills are desirable. 

Other duties as directed by the Livestock Project Manager. 

Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) is the responsibility of all team members across VFF. Team members are expected to comply with all company policies and procedures regarding OH&S and actively participate in the identification and resolution of any hazards and immediately report all incidents and injuries. 

Key Criteria Qualifications 

Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in marketing and communications industry is desirable. 

Background or knowledge in agriculture is also desirable. 

Excellent oral and written skills to communicate scientific and technical information in plain English to farmers and other industry representatives, including delivering presentations and facilitating events in an engaging manner. 

Experience in the use of digital communication tools including CRM, social media and website management 

Experience using Customer Relationship Management database (CRM) including content management system (CMS) to populate and update content 

Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders and excellent customer service skills. 

Strong organisational and planning skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks. 

Ability to work independently as well as being a supportive and contributing member of a team that’s motivated to deliver the project objectives. 

Flexibility as this role involves some regional travel and overnight stays.
