Farmers take to the city for Ag Day

Last week as part of National Agriculture Day, the Victorian Farmers Federation, working with the Victorian Farmers Market Association opened a two-day ‘pop up farmers market’ in the heart of Melbourne.

It was a fantastic success, showcasing the very best of Victorian produce in the heart of the city. Farmers from all across the state were treated customers to taste of the country.

In a snapshot:

  • More than 1,000 people visited the shop over two days;
  • Thousands of dollars was donated to the VFF’s Disaster Relief Fund, to help drought-stricken farmers;
  • One anonymous customer generously donated $1,000 to the Fund.

Victorian Farmers Federation President, Brett Hosking said it was fantastic to take a bit of the country to the city.

“Victorian farmers produce the world’s best food and fibre.”

“There’s no better way to bridge the city and country divide and showcase our industry than bringing farmers and produce to the heart of the city.”

“The support we received was overwhelming and it was a celebration of what makes agriculture great.”
