THE FARMERS' FUND STORY

The Farmers’ Fund is designed to increase the resilience and sustainability of farmers in the dairy industry through accessing grants that deliver real benefits.

The Farmers’ Fund is 100% owned and managed by farmers through the Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF), which has actively protected farmers’ interests for more than 100 years.

The initiative raises money through the sale of Farmers’ Fund milk where 40 cents from every two litre bottle sold is directed into the Farmers’ Fund.

Dairy farmers may apply for grants of up to $10,000 for programs, training or infrastructure that enhances productivity, builds resilience and stimulates sustainable growth. Our last round of successful applicants are using their funding for a variety of improvements, see more here.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A GRANT

Applicants may request grants for programs, training or infrastructure that enhances productivity, builds resilience and stimulates sustainable growth for dairy farmers, their business or their community.

The Farmers' Fund grant is available to dairy farmers in south eastern Australia including Victoria and areas of southern New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania.

NEWS/MEDIA

We are pleased to announce for Round 1 there were 60 successful applicants that received funding for their project or advice thanks to a $1 million contribution from Coles Nurture Fund.

The first round of submissions attracted strong interest with more than 600 applications received. The overwhelming number of first round Farmers' Fund applications demonstrates there is significant demand and support for the initiative and we are committed to providing grants to as many dairy farmers as possible.

The second round of Farmers' Fund once again attracted strong interest and 19 applicants were successful.

All applications were assessed by an independent selection panel made up of representatives from the VFF, the National Farmers Federation (NFF) and measured against key criteria as outlined in the Farmers’ Fund guidelines.

For round 1 & 2, successful applications demonstrated:

The requested project or advice would improve the productivity or sustainability of the dairy business
Commitment to the industry; and
Significant efforts in improving their farm practices over time.

To ensure there is an equitable process the applications were de-identified before being considered by the panel and reference checks were made on all the selected applications after the final selections were made.

Applications for the third round of Farmers Fund open on 20 February 2017 and close on 31 March 2017. See the 'apply now' section for details. Applications must be received by either email or post. Please refer to the Farmers’ Fund guidelines and eligibility criteria when submitting an application, available online at www.farmersfund.org.au.
