With dry conditions continuing across much of Victoria, many producers are currently carting stock water to maintain animal welfare and keep businesses operating. It’s during times like the present that the reliability and condition of local standpipes and public watering points is critical.
We are hearing increasing reports of standpipes and public watering points that are difficult to access, restricted, unreliable, or in poor condition. However, to advocate effectively with councils, water authorities, and the Victorian Government, we need a clear, accurate, and up-to-date picture of what is happening on the ground.
We are asking you to provide information on specific standpipes or public watering points in your area where:
- Infrastructure is degraded or in need of urgent upgrading;
- Water supply is unreliable, restricted, or unavailable;
- Capacity is insufficient during peak demand in dry periods;
- Access arrangements are unclear or impractical for producers carting water.
This information will be used to directly to inform VFF advocacy and ensure our asks are targeted. If you are aware of issues, please provide:
- Location (road name, town or coordinates if possible);
- Description of the issue;
- How it affects your ability to cart stock water;
- Whether the issue is new or ongoing.
Please send these details to directly to our team at [email protected]
Your local knowledge is essential to building a true picture of the issue and strengthening VFF’s advocacy during these challenging conditions.
