The VFF appreciates the opportunity to make this submission to the Australian Competition
and Consumer Commission (ACCC) regarding the Statement of Issues for the proposed merger
of Elders Limited (Elders) and Delta Agribusiness (Delta).
The VFF believes that well-functioning, competitive markets drive the best outcomes for
market participants and consumers. In this context, the VFF is concerned about increasing
concentration and lack of competition in the rural supply market. The sector has been
becoming increasing concentrated over time and the proposed merger of Elders and Delta
with further exacerbate this concentration.
The VFF therefore recommends that the ACCC oppose the proposed merger of Elders and
Delta
