The Cattle Underpass Scheme (CUPS) aims to improve the safety of rural roads for the motoring public, farming families and their employees who regularly take stock across arterials.
The Agriculture Infrastructure and Jobs Fund (AIJF) through the government Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Training and Resources is part of the Victorian Government’s plan to support Victorian farmers, through funding the CUPS program.
The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is responsible for administering the government funded CUPS program for the transfer of livestock between pastures separated by local and /or arterial roads.
Funding is available for stock underpasses on any road or rail line, and in allocating funding priority may be given on the basis of the head of stock per crossing, the frequency of crossings, traffic volumes and other special factors justifying individual applications based on public benefit.
Funding for the program commences on 1 December 2016 and the grant equals 33% of the underpass cost up to a maximum of $50,000 plus GST. Funding is paid to the contractor once the underpass is completed and all required documentary evidence is supplied to VFF.
Due to identified issues with Cattle Under Pass installations specifically in relation to the relocation of Telstra Assets, there is now a NEW PROCEDURE that must be adhered to with all CUP installations from Monday 18 September 2017 onwards.
