The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is encouraging Victorian farmers to claim a $1,200 rebate for two quad bike operator protection devices (OPDs) or a safer alternative farm vehicle before the Quad Bike Safety Rebate Scheme closes on 30 June 2020.
VFF President David Jochinke said quad bikes are a major cause of death and injury on Victorian farms and safety must be the number one priority for farmers.
“Tragically this year we’ve already had two deaths in Victoria related to quad bikes and nine across Australia, the majority which were a result of a rollover.”
“Safety is and must always be our top priority, we all have a role in keeping ourselves, our families and our workforce safe,” Mr Jochinke said.
Mr Jochinke said the program has been running since 2016 and has been successful in upgrading thousands of quad bikes to safer alternatives or installing protective OPDs on current models.
“More than five thousand Victorian farmers have already participated in the Quad Bike Safety Rebate Scheme, demonstrating their commitment to farm safety.”
“I encourage all farmers who haven’t yet taken advantage of this opportunity to get in before the scheme closes on June 30,” Mr Jochinke said.
Applications will be open until Tuesday 30 June and farmers can access further information on the VFF website at https://www.vff.org.au/quadbike or by calling the VFF on 1300 882 833.
