The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) welcomes the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action’s (DEECA) efforts to strengthen Emergency Water Supply Points (EWSPs) across Victoria, providing critical support for farmers and rural communities during drought and other emergencies.
DEECA has collaborated with the VFF to map, repair, upgrade, and build new emergency water points throughout Victoria.
VFF Water Council Chair Andrew Leahy said the vital work is critical to support farmers throughout Victoria.
“Emergency Water Supply Points are essential infrastructure, especially during a drought.”
“They provide vital access to water for livestock and domestic use when farm or household supplies run dry, and they play a key role in emergency response, including firefighting,” Mr Leahy said.
Mr Leahy encouraged farmers and water users to familiarise themselves with the EWSP website and report any gaps or issues to help keep information up to date.
“This project underscores the need for ongoing investment.”
“Having water points clearly identified and publicly available is vital, but the next step is ensuring they are maintained and supported through recurrent funding, so communities are prepared before the next drought hits.”
The VFF will continue to work with DEECA, water authorities, and local governments to ensure emergency water supply points remain reliable, accessible, and fit for purpose across Victoria.
All locations are publicly available via a central website, which will be continually updated as new or improved points come online: https://www.water.vic.gov.au/for-agriculture-and-industry/emergency-water-supply-points
