Every ride frees fuel for a farm.
Everything you eat comes from a farm powered by diesel. From the tractors and harvesters that grow it, to the trucks and heavy locomotives that get it from our farms to you. There is no substitute. If the diesel stops flowing, your food stops growing.
The good news? Small daily changes by millions of Victorians add up fast.
If just one in five car commuters switched to public transport, the fuel saved would be enough to plant half our Nation’s entire grain crop.
Make the switch. Take the tram. Carpool on the school run. Leave the car at home one extra day a week. Every trip you shift off the road keeps diesel in the system for sowing, spraying, harvesting and freight – the work that keeps shelves stocked and exports moving.
Take the pledge. Register your commitment below and we’ll make sure government knows Victorians are stepping up – and that they should too.
Take the pledge to save fuel for farms
Four practical ways we can help ensure farmers have enough fuel
1. Make public transport free until fuel stabilises
2. Increase services and capacity
Free transport only works if the system can absorb extra passengers. More services, more often, and extra capacity mean safe, comfortable trips.
3. Take the trip you can
Work commutes, uni trips, errands — every car trip shifted saves fuel for sowing, spraying, harvesting, and freight. Carpool, bundle errands, skip unnecessary trips — every bit counts.
4. Tell our Government you’re doing it
Register your commitment to support farmers at vff.org.au. We’ll make sure the Government knows that Victorians have stepped up — and they should too.
Together we can make a stand and deliver the message that Victorian farmers, regional communities, our local farmland and world-leading food and fibre matters.
Together, every ride makes a difference
A temporary shift in how we move, can keep diesel available for the work that feeds Victorians and keeps exports moving. If you can take the tram or train tomorrow, do it. Leave the car at home a couple of times a week. And help tell Government to make public transport free and frequent until supply stabilises. Because when one ride frees up fuel for a farm, everyone benefits, from our paddock to your plate.
