Helping Farmers Deal With Drought Events
The VFF is at the forefront of advocacy for programs to directly assist farmers prepare for and deal with drought events.
The VFF is focused on long term solutions that help farm businesses prepare for drought through improving infrastructure and farming methods. We advocate for a national drought policy that sees Federal Government, state and territory governments, local governments, other agricultural industry bodies, community groups, and agricultural research organisations, to work together.
Our advocacy has led to a range of government responses and programs including local government rate relief, water infrastructure projects and drought preparedness grants.
In 2020, the Farm Business and Regional Development Committee signed off on a new drought policy that is pending the approval of the VFF Policy Council. Further updates will be provided following the Policy Council’s next meeting.
