About the Program
As part of its Victoria’s Smarter, Safer Farms program and Safer Farms election commitment to address skills and safety issues in the agriculture sector the Victorian Government has provided funding under the Making our Farms Safer initiative to enable the Victorian Farmers Federation to employ two full time safety professionals to assist VFF members in making their workplaces safer.
To find out more, or to arrange some assistance, contact the VFF Farm Safety Service on 1300 882 833.
Farm Safety Services
Free assistance is now available to all Victorian Farmers to help you establish a simple safety process for your farm. These free services from the VFF include:
1. Farm Safety Assistance
Are you employer staff, perhaps a casual or two? Do you only use contractors?
Do you have in place:
- A safety induction?
- Farm rules?
- Safety policies?
- Safe work procedures?
FREE assistance is available to help you establish a simple safety process for your farm.
2. Farm Safety Walk & Talk
Would you and your neighbours like a free Farm Safety Walk & Talk?
Would your group like to:
- Clarify any health and safety issues?
- Improve their understanding of what needs to be done?
- Get answers to what records should be kept?
This is an opportunity to discuss and improve your understanding of all things health and safety with your farming neighbours. Farm Safety Walk & Talks take up to three hours depending on the group and the size of the farm.
3. Health & Safety Management Systems Review
- Do you have a health and safety management system at your farm?
- Would you like a review conducted of your system by a set of independent eyes?
- Please note the review tool assesses both general health and safety requirements as well as considering commodity specific health and safety issues.
- All reviews include a report and action plan
The review will give consideration to the system established to manage health and safety and includes an escorted tour of the farm.

Telehandler Safety Handbook
A Telehandler or Telescopic Handler is a versatile machine for agricultural work, but its advantages can pose serious risks if it’s not used correctly.
This Telehandler Safety Handbook has been developed by the Victorian Farmers Federation, in conjunction with the Telescopic Handler Association (TSHA), to increase awareness for farmers of the machinery’s operation and how to prevent accidents while in use.
Telehandler Safety Flyer
This two page flyer provides a summary of the safety considerations when using a Telehandler and a risk assessment checklist.
