VFF pushes case for fair animal welfare legislation and standards

Recently we met with the State Government to discuss the upcoming animal welfare legislation and standards ahead of a decision expected in May regarding the need for a new animal welfare act.

The VFF continues to advocate for fair animal welfare legislation and standards that protects animals, looks after farmers and continues to uphold our world-leading industry practices.

Also on the agenda was the new draft national poultry welfare standards that national Agriculture Ministers is expected to approve in June. Our view is in the current state, these standards would further exacerbate cost of living pressures on some parts of the community, as healthy and nutritious eggs from animal welfare friendly and biosecure cages will be banned.

We will continue to advocate for a fair outcome for farmers and will keep you updated on the progress of this issue.
